The fourth edition of the CEFF brings to Calgary critically acclaimed movies from 12 European countries. This year participants are: Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Switzerland, Spain, Serbia, and the Czech Republic.
The festival will open with “Aferim!”, a 2015 film directed by Radu Jude. The drama that explores the enslavement of the Roma minority back in the 19th century, won the Silver Berlin Bear this year at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Spain is one of the countries that has joined the CEFF this year with ‘’Marshland / La isla mínima’’, one of the best Spanish films of 2014. The movie was directed by Alberto Rodríguez and won important awards – including ten Goya Awards.
Another film scheduled for Friday, November 13, is “Liza the Fox-Fairy / Liza, a rókatündér”, a 2015 Hungarian comedy / fantasy in the vein of ‘’Amelie’’. The movie won the New Director's Showcase Award at the Seattle International Film Festival.
All productions will be screened in the original language with English subtitles.
The 2015 CEFF edition is organized by the European Cultural Society of Calgary with the support of the Association for German Education in Calgary, the Calgary Bulgarian Society, cIneMAGINE and Alliance Française de Calgary, the Croatian Centre, the Calgary Moldavian Community, the Czech Business Association of Canada, Serbian Fest Calgary, the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Association of Calgary, Instituto Cervantes Calgary, the Polish Canadian Cultural Centre, the Romanian Canadian Cultural Association of Calgary, and the Swiss Cultural Society of Calgary.
